Hand rearing neonatal animals is a monumental commitment. In most clinical cases, the vulnerable new arrival requires full removal from the mother. Early maternal separation or medical intervention may be necessary for several reasons, including:

Insufficient Mothering Care: Inexperience or lack of maternal instinct.

Inadequate Lactation: Insufficient milk production or mastitis.

Maternal Rejection or Illness: Aggression towards offspring or acute illness.

Maternal Loss: Death of mother during or after birth.

Congenital Defects: Birth abnormalities such as cleft palette (palatoschsis) 

Active Infections: Environmental or systemic neonatal illness.

Critical Neonatal Risks: Newborn animals are incredibly fragile. Due to their high reliance on the mother for thermal regulation and basic nutrition, problems develop rapidly and can quickly become life-threatening.

Dehydration (Severe lack of essential fluids)

Hypoglycaemia (A sudden drop in blood sugar levels)
